FWC envenomated meal
I decided to do this page as a start on evidencing just how necrotic (or not) the venom is on the average FWC.
The above specimen is just over 3ft long is male and recently been rehomed with me.
I have never seen anything unusual in any specimen I have had in the past when they feed, some strike some strike and envenomate others just eat their prey in their stride, however I noted something different this time with PABLO.
Time of feeding was approx 22:15 hrs 9 days after previous feed, He had been placed into his feeding RUB when a large warmed defrosted mouse was placed into the RUB. The snake showed little interest for a few minutes then struck at then worked his rear fangs onto the mouse and appeared to envenomate it. The snake then held the mouse still for 10 minutes before moving it about and trying to consume it rear end first. Picture 1. shows wher the snake first struck and held scrolling through to Pic 10 which is where I noticed something diffenrent, there appears to be necrosis setting in, this also appears to worsen in the next few frames.
Over the next few months I will endeavour to exhibit and evidence the necrosis in prey from this snake.
